Partrac consortium delivering a geomorphological assessment of the Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 Project

SSE Renewables has engaged the technical expertise of a consortium led by Partrac, to deliver a detailed assessment of the geomorphology of Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 project. The consortium consists of Partrac, MetOceanWorks and Cooper Marine Advisors.

An understanding of the geomorphology and potential changes arising over the lifetime of an offshore wind farm is an important consideration for project design.

Stage 1 of the study was delivered at the end of 2019 providing a comprehensive literature review, an initial phase of numerical modelling and recommendations for detailed site investigations, including metocean and geophysical surveys.

Stage 2 is now ongoing and involves utilising the survey data to provide local validation of the modelling tools which will be used to support a long-term assessment of the lease area, export cable route and surrounding areas.

“As activity accelerates in the Irish offshore wind sector, we are delighted to be supporting SSE Renewables in this development” said Dr. Kevin Black (Technical Director Partrac Ltd).

SSE Offshore Geotechnical Engineer John Davidson commented “The geomorphological assessment compliments our engineering work streams, allowing us to make decisions with increased knowledge and therefore confidence. We are pleased to be working with the Partrac consortium toward delivery of Stage 2 of this exciting project.”
