The company was founded in Glasgow, Scotland by Dr Kevin Black, Sam Athey and Peter Wilson in August 2003. Founded upon our decades of expertise in physical marine processes and marine measurement, the Company aim was to provide the owners and developers of complex engineering environmental projects in challenging marine environments with high-quality, science-led metocean and geo-surveys.

We have supported the successful completion of many high-profile projects, both domestically and overseas, collecting critical data for projects that include major port infrastructure developments and dredging projects (e.g., the London Gateway project and Liverpool2), almost all UK offshore wind developments, the principal tidal and wave energy projects that emerged during the early days of the sector and across several emerging aquaculture projects. We are extremely proud of the reputation we have earned for high quality, objective and robust surveys. Our client testimonies demonstrate that we provide critical, valuable data which helps our customers reduce risk and enables informed and critical decision making.

In 2011 we opened an office in Newcastle as the focus for delivering specialist marine consulting services. Our team comprises PhD grade specialists, with expertise in advanced metocean analysis, coastal processes, coastal modelling, geomorphology and flow-sediment-structure interactions. Integrating with our core survey expertise, we have delivered desktop projects and studies for major blue-chip clients which include metocean design criteria, seabed morphodynamic assessments, scour and seabed mobility studies, ES physical marine environment chapters for EIA and site characterisation studies.

Over the last 18 years, we have evolved from a three-person start-up to a company that is trusted to provide critical data and advice to some of the world’s largest marine and renewable energy clients and their projects.  We have invested in a team of dynamic, motivated high calibre people from a variety of backgrounds and specialisms. In tandem we have streamlined our organisation through adoption and uptake of technology, a strategy for business that will help us stay ahead and succeed.
